The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Sokoto Zone, has warned that lecturers in five state-owned universities across Kebbi, Katsina and Zamfara may embark on an indefinite strike if the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU Agreement is not implemented.

Speaking in Sokoto, ASUU Zonal Coordinator, Prof. Abubakar Sabo, said key components of the agreement, including Earned Academic Allowances (EAA), Consolidated Academic Tool Allowances (CATA) and Professorial Allowances, have not been fully implemented in the affected institutions. He noted that lecturers at Abdullahi Fodiyo University of Science and Technology, Aliero (AFUSTA), are still owed EAA dating back to 2014.

According to the union, the decision follows resolutions reached at ASUU’s National Executive Council meeting in Abuja. The union also expressed concern over unpaid promotion arrears, outstanding salary adjustments and other welfare issues, warning that continued delays could worsen brain drain in the university system.

ASUU urged the governments of Kebbi, Katsina and Zamfara to follow the example of states that have implemented the agreement and take urgent action to avoid disruptions to academic activities. The union says dialogue remains open, but members are prepared to take industrial action if their demands remain unresolved.
