A joint team of security operatives has foiled a cattle rustling operation in Katsina State, recovering 117 stolen livestock after engaging suspected bandits in a gun battle in Charanchi Local Government Area.

The Katsina State Police Command, on Wednesday July 1, said the operation followed credible intelligence that armed bandits had attacked Saburu and Billiri villages, rustling domestic animals. Acting swiftly, the Divisional Police Officer in Charanchi mobilised tactical police teams alongside the military and members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) to intercept the suspects.

According to the command, the operatives strategically blocked the bandits’ escape routes, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire. Overpowered by the coordinated security response, the suspects abandoned the stolen animals and fled into nearby bushes.

Police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, said the recovered livestock comprised 43 cows and 74 sheep, adding that efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Umar-Fage, commended the operatives for their bravery and teamwork, reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely, credible information to security agencies to strengthen ongoing security operations.
