Officials from Katsina State and selected local government areas are undergoing a two-day training programme aimed at improving public service delivery, transparency and accountability in governance.
The training, organised under the European Union-funded Conflict Prevention, Crisis Preparedness and Response for Resilience (CPCRR) project, is designed to equip participants with practical skills for responsive and people-centred service delivery. The project is being implemented by Mercy Corps, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD).
According to project officials, the programme will strengthen local government capacity to better understand community needs, encourage citizen participation and improve coordination in critical sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture and WASH services. Participants will also learn conflict-sensitive, gender-responsive and climate-resilient approaches to governance.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to promote peace, stability and sustainable development in vulnerable communities across Katsina and Zamfara states. Stakeholders say stronger local institutions and improved accountability will help deliver better outcomes for citizens and strengthen community resilience.
