The Nigerian Army, working alongside the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) Tactical Team, has neutralised a notorious terrorist leader, Kachalla Ibrahim Battijo, and more than 15 members of his gang during a coordinated intelligence-led operation in Kogi State.
Military authorities said Battijo, who was linked to the recent attack on a church in Eruku, Kwara State, was killed on June 10, 2026, while attempting to carry out a kidnap operation. Follow-up clearance led to the recovery of over 15 terrorist bodies, presumably gang members who reportedly attempted to escape after the initial encounter with troops.
The Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, while briefing the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, on Monday, June 15, revealed that intelligence had uncovered the plot by the terrorists to attack Government Secondary School, Iluke, in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area and abduct students sitting for their examinations. The successful counter-operation eliminated the terrorist commander, disrupted his network, and foiled the kidnap attempt.
Security analysts say the development represents a major setback for criminal elements operating within the North Central zone, and highlights ongoing efforts by security agencies to protect vulnerable communities and educational institutions from terrorist threats.
