Three security personnel were killed after suspected terrorists launched a late-night attack on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, near Jos in Plateau State.
The attack, which occurred around 11:40 PM on Monday, June 15, saw armed men storm the facility and open fire on security operatives stationed at the institute’s gate, in a bid to gain access to the institution and its residential quarters. In the ensuing gun battle, two military men and a police officer lost their lives.
Confirming the incident on Tuesday, the Head of Public Affairs at NIPSS, Dr. Osime Samuel, said the situation had been swiftly brought under control through the intervention of security agencies. He assured that there was no threat to life or facility within the institute, adding that normal activities were continuing without disruption.
Security has since been reinforced around the institute, while security agencies have launched a manhunt to track down and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The NIPSS, regarded as Nigeria’s foremost policy and strategic training institution, plays a key role in grooming senior government officials, military officers, technocrats and policy experts from across the country.
