Listen

Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued Mrs. Abubakar, wife of the late retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, following a fierce gun battle with suspected bandits in Katsina State.

According to a credible military source, the operation was carried out by troops of the 17 Brigade during an ongoing search-and-rescue mission launched after the retired general and his wife were abducted.

The troops reportedly engaged the fleeing bandits at Tunga village, leading to an exchange of gunfire. During the confrontation, the attackers allegedly shot Mrs. Abubakar before escaping under pressure from the advancing soldiers.

Despite sustaining gunshot injuries, the troops successfully rescued her, administered first aid at the scene, and immediately evacuated her to a medical facility in Dutsin-Ma for urgent treatment.

The development comes barely two days after the Defence Headquarters confirmed the death of her husband Major General Rabe Abubakar (rtd).

As of the time of filing this report, military authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the latest development.
