KOGI BANS NIGHT TRAVEL, CLOSES MARKETS, IN CRACKDOWN ON BANDITRY

Listen

The Kogi State Government has announced a sweeping set of security measures, including a ban on night travel on all state-owned roads, as part of efforts to tackle rising cases of kidnapping and violent crimes across the state. Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo disclosed the directives on Saturday June 13 in Lokoja.

Under these new measures, movement on all state roads is prohibited from 7:00 PM daily until further notice. Motorcycle operations have also been banned across several communities in the Bunu hinterland, to prevent intelligence, logistics, and supplies from getting to the bandits in the forests.

Markets located along the affected corridors have also been ordered to shut down, and Mobile medicine vendors and drug distributors have been ordered to suspend operations. Additionally, the sale of Petrol and Diesel in jerrycans is prohibited throughout Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area.

While acknowledging that the restrictions may create temporary hardships for residents, the government insisted that protecting lives and communities was top priority, assuring residents that the security situation would be reviewed every two weeks.

The government called on residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies and provide useful information that could support ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal activities across the state.
