WORLD DAY AGAINST CHILD LABOUR: KADUNA GROUP CALLS FOR STRONGER ACTION AGAINST CHILD EXPLOITATION

Listen

The Kaduna Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) Support Working Group has called for renewed commitment and stronger enforcement of laws to eliminate child labour and protect children from exploitation.

The Chairman of the group, Dr Terngu Gwar, made the call in a statement on Friday June 12 in Kaduna to commemorate the 2026 World Day Against Child Labour. He described child labour as one of the most serious violations of children’s rights.

Gwar noted that the administration of the criminal justice framework provides mechanisms for ensuring accountability in cases involving child exploitation and abuse. He urged relevant authorities to intensify investigations and prosecution of offenders, while ensuring that child victims are protected and supported.

Gwar further called for greater attention to the root causes of child labour, including poverty, limited access to quality education, social inequality, insecurity, and harmful social practices. He added that addressing these underlying factors is essential to securing a better future for children.

The World Day Against Child Labour is observed annually on June 12 to raise awareness and mobilise efforts toward ending all forms of child labour globally.
