The incident occurred on Monday, June 8, when four coaches of the Warri–Itakpe Train Service derailed near Agbor in Delta State, causing panic among hundreds of passengers onboard.
According to the Federal Ministry of Transportation, a total of 482 people — including 442 passengers and 40 crew members — were on the train at the time of the accident.
Among the passengers were Senator Ede Dafinone and former Delta State SSG, Patrick Ukah.
Emergency responders were quickly deployed to the scene, while authorities confirmed that an investigation has begun to determine the cause of the derailment. Efforts are also ongoing to identify victims and support those affected.
The accident has once again raised concerns over rail safety in Nigeria, especially on the Warri–Itakpe corridor, which has experienced repeated disruptions and previous derailments in recent years.
Authorities say further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
