Suspected terrorists attacked a Fulani settlement in Sodo, along the Lafiagi axis of Edu Local Government Area, killing one resident and abducting several others.
The attack, which occurred on Monday June 1, threw the community into panic, as gunmen arrived during the evening and began shooting indiscriminately, forcing many residents to flee into surrounding bushes in a desperate bid to escape.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the gunmen operated on motorcycles. Residents described the affected settlement as one of several vulnerable communities in the area that have limited security presence and are frequently exposed to attacks by criminal elements.
Community members have again called on the government and security agencies to strengthen surveillance and deploy more personnel to protect rural settlements in Edu and neighbouring local government areas.
