Traders and residents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are expressing concern over the continued rise in prices of tomatoes, pepper, and other perishable food items.
Many traders say prices have increased significantly in recent weeks, making it difficult for them to restock and for customers to afford basic ingredients. They attribute the situation to rising transportation costs and increased demand ahead of the Sallah celebration.
In markets across Gwagwalada, Karu, and Nyanya, residents report sharp increases in the prices of several food items, including tomatoes, pepper, onions, and okra. Traders also say sales have dropped as many customers are now reducing purchases or switching to alternatives.
Some residents describe the situation as challenging for household food planning, while traders are calling on relevant authorities to help address transport and supply-related costs to ease pressure on food prices.
