The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has stressed that physical fitness is key to the combat readiness and operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
He made this known during the Second Quarter 2026 Armed Forces Route March held in Abuja, where he was represented by the Chief of Defence Policy and Plans, AVM Francis Edosa.
The CDS described the route march as an essential military exercise that builds discipline, teamwork, endurance, and unity among personnel. He also urged troops to maintain high fitness standards in line with the demands of modern security operations.
He further noted that the exercise is not merely ceremonial but a vital part of military preparedness, as personnel continue to operate in complex security environments across the country.
