The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has urged Nigeria to embrace disruptive technologies and artificial intelligence to improve governance, trade administration and revenue generation across the country.
Adeniyi made the call while delivering the keynote address at the 4th Biennial International Conference organised by the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences of University of Ilorin in collaboration with the Faculty of Philology, RUDN University. The conference, held in Ilorin, Kwara State, and attracted academics, policy makers, technocrats and scholars from different parts of the world.
Speaking during the opening ceremony at the university’s main auditorium, the Customs’s boss explained that the deployment of digital tools has improved efficiency, transparency and accountability in Customs operations, adding that the Service would continue to align with global best practices in revenue generation, trade facilitation and border security.
Adeniyi also stressed the need for stronger collaboration among government institutions, financial organisations, auditors, legislators and policy makers to build a sustainable economic and revenue system for the country.
