AFAN has called for urgent efforts to revive Nigeria’s cocoa sector and restore its contribution to the country’s economy.
Speaking in Lagos, the association said cocoa was once one of Nigeria’s leading cash crops but has lost its former prominence despite strong global demand. AFAN urged government support for farmers and renewed investment in cocoa production.
The group also encouraged farmers to focus on value addition by processing cocoa into products such as cocoa powder and other by-products, instead of relying mainly on the sale of raw beans.
AFAN further noted that many cocoa farmers face challenges linked to low returns and market pressures, calling for stronger collaboration between government and farmers to reposition the sector for growth.
