The Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Centre) and the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) have announced a nationwide sensitisation programme on the 2026 Annual Flood Outlook.
The initiative is designed to improve public understanding of flood risks and strengthen preparedness across vulnerable communities in Nigeria ahead of the rainy season.
According to organisers, the two-day virtual programme will bring together participants from across the six geopolitical zones, including farmers, civil society groups, media professionals, researchers and government agencies.
They also noted that the sessions will focus on simplifying flood forecasts and promoting practical steps for communities to reduce risks and losses during flooding periods.
The programme is scheduled to hold virtually on May 19 and 20, with organisers calling for wider participation, especially from the media and local institutions.
