FCT RESIDENTS LAMENT POOR POWER SUPPLY, RISING ELECTRICITY BILLS

Listen

Electricity consumers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have raised concerns over poor power supply and rising electricity costs in different parts of Abuja.

Residents in areas such as Kubwa, Bwari, Kado, Apo and Dutse say they continue to experience irregular electricity, even as they report higher bills and reduced electricity units for the same payment.

Many consumers without prepaid meters say they are affected by estimated billing, while others report frequent outages that affect homes and small businesses.

An AEDC staff member, who spoke anonymously, explained that electricity billing depends on consumer bands and transformer readings in different locations. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has also indicated plans to review electricity tariffs.

Energy experts, however, are calling for improved and stable power supply before any tariff increase, noting the financial pressure already faced by consumers.
