The Ebonyi State Police Command says it has arrested a self-acclaimed prophet over the alleged abuse and humiliation of a child accused of witchcraft in Izzi Local Government Area.
Police said the arrest followed a viral video showing the child being subjected to what authorities described as abusive and inhumane treatment. The child was rescued by operatives and taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, for medical attention.
The Police Command said investigations are ongoing and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of children, while warning against all forms of child abuse.
A resident of the community alleged that the child’s parents had sought spiritual intervention after the child reportedly suffered frequent illness.
