TEAM NIGERIA MAKES STRONG START AT AFRICAN SENIOR ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS IN GHANA

Team Nigeria has recorded an impressive opening day at the Senior Athletics Championships taking place in Accra, Ghana.

Rosemary Chukwuma won her women’s 100m heat in 11.44s, while Chidera Ezeakor secured victory in the men’s 100m heat with a time of 10.38s, ahead of Ghana’s top sprinter.

In the men’s 400m, Samson Nathaniel finished first, while Esther Okon placed second in the women’s 400m heat to qualify for the next round.

World record holder Tobi Amusan also progressed to the final after clocking a season’s best 12.82s in the 100m hurdles, finishing as the fastest across the heats.

Nigeria also claimed two medals in the women’s discus, with Divine Oladipo winning silver in her debut for Nigeria and Obiageri Ameachi taking bronze. The championships continue until May 17.
