Hundreds of youths staged a peaceful protest in Umuahia on Monday, opposing Sen. Orji Kalu’s reported third-term bid for the Abia North Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 elections.
The protesters called for what they described as a generational shift in leadership and endorsed Dr Phillips Nto as their preferred aspirant for the position.
The group marched through parts of the Abia State capital before submitting a protest letter at the APC secretariat, urging party leaders to ensure a level playing field during the party’s primary process.
APC officials who received the protesters assured them that their message would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities and reiterated plans to adopt a direct primary system for candidate selection.
