Many Lagos residents say even though prices of staples like garri, rice and beans have dropped slightly in recent months, low income and rising living costs are still making feeding difficult.
Some residents who spoke in different parts of the state said transportation costs, stagnant salaries and expensive proteins like meat, fish, eggs, tomatoes and pepper continue to stretch household budgets.
A Surulere resident said a paint bucket of garri that once sold for about N3,000 now goes for around N1,500, but many families still struggle to afford basic meals because purchasing power remains low.
Others in Dopemu, Gbagada and Aboru said while a few food prices have stabilised, the overall cost of living remains high, forcing many households to cut down on food spending and “manage what they can afford.”
Residents say they are hopeful economic conditions will improve in the coming months.
