Abuja, May 2, 2026 — Nigeria’s mixed 4×100m relay team has delivered a standout performance at the World Relay Championships in Botswana, boosting hopes of qualifying for the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing.

The quartet of Favor Ashe, Jennifer Chukwuka-Obi, Chidera Ezeakor, and Maria Thompson clocked an impressive 40.24 seconds—setting a new African record—while finishing 4th in their heat.

Their fate now hangs on the final results from other heats to confirm qualification for the global event scheduled for September 2027 in China.
