DON’T LET JUSTICE DIE: FALANA URGES MEDIA TO REOPEN ‘FORGOTTEN’ MURDER CASES
Lagos — Human rights lawyer Femi Falana is calling on journalists to push for the reopening of unresolved murder cases across Nigeria, warning that many victims have been “abandoned without justice.”
Speaking at an event organised by Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), Falana urged the media to intensify its watchdog role by tracking high-profile cases that have faded from public attention.
He cited cases like the killing of Sylvester Oromoni, the 2018 Offa robbery killings, and other unresolved incidents, stressing that public pressure can force accountability.
Falana also challenged journalists to make better use of the Freedom of Information Act and avoid compromising integrity for commercial interests, warning that practices like excessive advert placements weaken public trust.
