A High Court in Lokoja has ordered Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to pay ₦1 billion in damages to former Kogi governor Yahaya Bello over defamation.
Delivering judgment, Justice A. S. Ibrahim ruled that comments made by the senator during a 2022 appearance on The Morning Show on Arise TV were defamatory and unjustified, having portrayed Bello as a “killer” and “terror.”
The court not only awarded damages but also issued a perpetual injunction, stopping the senator and her associates from making similar statements in future.
The case had faced legal back-and-forth, including a challenge on jurisdiction and an appeal, but the courts ultimately affirmed that the Kogi High Court had the authority to hear the matter.
