Listen

The LIFE-ND has kicked off cash disbursement to agribusiness trainees in Abia State, with 100 beneficiaries receiving ₦472,000 each as start-up capital.

The beneficiaries, drawn from a larger pool of 276, got their cheques in Umuahia after completing hands-on training in processing and marketing at incubation centres.

State Project Coordinator Uchenna Onyeizu said more beneficiaries would be supported across communities, while others in production—like poultry, rice, cassava, and fishery—will receive inputs.

In total, over 600 participants are set to benefit from the 2025 incubation cycle under the programme’s additional financing.

Since launching in 2021, LIFE-ND has empowered over 4,300 people across 100 communities, targeting youths (18–35) and women-led households to drive jobs, income, and food security.

The initiative—backed by the Federal Government, IFAD, and NDDC—aims to transform agriculture into a profitable business.

Commissioner for Agriculture Cliff Agbaeze said the state plans to expand the programme to all 17 LGAs, building on its success.

Beneficiaries say the support is life-changing, offering not just funding but the skills to grow sustainable businesses.
