A routine ferry trip turned into a rescue mission as gunmen abduct 15 passengers on a busy southern water route.
Security agencies have launched a joint operation to rescue 15 passengers kidnapped by gunmen along the Calabar–Oron waterway.
The Cross River Police Command confirmed the development, saying it is working with the Akwa Ibom Police Command and the Nigerian Navy to track down the attackers and secure the victims’ release.
Police spokesperson, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, said coordinated search-and-rescue and tactical efforts are ongoing to ensure the safe return of the passengers and arrest of those responsible.
A naval source revealed that the gunmen ambushed the passenger ferry while it was en route from Calabar in Cross River to Oron in Akwa Ibom.
Authorities say operations are ongoing as efforts intensify to bring the situation under control.
