Relief in Benue as kidnapped passengers—including JAMB candidates—regain freedom after days in captivity.

Governor Hyacinth Alia has confirmed the safe rescue of 15 abducted passengers kidnapped along the Taraku–Otukpo road.

Speaking in Makurdi alongside the police commissioner, the governor said 17 people were initially taken, but two escaped earlier, leaving 15 who were later rescued unharmed.

Among the victims were eight candidates of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), with the governor urging the exam body to make special arrangements for them.

He directed that all rescued victims receive free medical care and educational support to continue their studies.

Police authorities confirmed that eight suspects have been arrested, with investigations linking several of them to the kidnapping and similar crimes.

The government commended security agencies for the successful operation and reaffirmed its stance against criminal activities in the state.
