No nation outruns its universities — Ondo Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa says Nigeria’s leap into the future depends on stronger leadership and stronger classrooms.
Akure, April 16, 2026 — Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, says Nigeria’s economic and technological future will be shaped by the strength of its universities and the quality of leadership they produce.
He made the remarks while delivering a lecture at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Foundation Day celebration titled “Leadership, Organisational Performance and Technology in a Rapidly Changing World.”
Aiyedatiwa said universities must go beyond awarding certificates to shaping leaders who can respond to global disruptions and drive innovation.
“Leadership is about influence, not coercion. It is a continuous process of inspiring people toward shared goals,” he said, stressing that adaptability is key in a fast-changing world.
He added that leadership skills can be developed through education and experience, noting that technical, human and conceptual abilities are essential for effective governance and organisation.
The governor also described technology-driven universities, especially institutions like FUTA, as central to national development through research, innovation and skilled manpower.
FUTA Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, said leadership and technology remain critical to improving organisational performance in today’s digital era.
She noted that universities thrive on collaboration, not isolation, and praised the Ondo State Government for supporting FUTA with key projects, including a teaching hospital upgrade, road works and water facilities.
