FRSC, FUEL MARKETERS TEAM UP TO CLEAN UP TRUCK SAFETY ON RIVERS ROADS

Listen

Big trucks, bigger risks—so the FRSC and energy marketers are joining forces in Rivers to make sure what’s moving fuel doesn’t move chaos on the roads.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has partnered with the Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN) to train personnel in Rivers State on improving road safety compliance among truck operators.

At a training session in Port Harcourt, Assistant Corps Marshal Henry Benemesia, FRSC Zone 6, said the focus is simple: fix dangerous driving habits—especially among truck drivers transporting highly flammable products.

He noted that many operators still fall short of safety standards, making training and sensitisation a priority.

According to him, the programme will equip FRSC “safe-to-load” officers to better educate drivers and their assistants, while also tightening accountability on compliance.

In his words, it’s about ensuring truck operators don’t just move goods—but do it safely, by the book, and without cutting corners.

On his part, Mr Victor Ajise of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority praised the collaboration, saying it could finally push full compliance with truck colour-coding rules. He warned that any truck without proper identification markings should not be allowed on the road.

Also speaking, TotalEnergies transport coordinator IfeOluwa Oyedeji reaffirmed support for the safe-to-load initiative, noting that it is designed to enforce safety checks and penalise violators where necessary.

The message from all sides is clear: safety first—because one careless truck on a fuel route is one too many.
