UNIABUJA SET TO GRADUATE 77 FIRST-CLASS STARS IN DOUBLE CONVOCATION

Listen to the story

Brains, brilliance, and a bit of bragging rights — 77 students are graduating at the very top of their class!

It’s celebration time at University of Abuja (now Yakubu Gowon University) as 77 students bag First Class degrees in its combined 29th and 30th convocation ceremonies.

Out of a massive 12,624 graduating students across two academic sessions, these high-flyers are leading the pack — and the best part? Top graduates will get automatic job offers from the university.

Vice-Chancellor Hakeem Fawehinmi says the institution isn’t just producing graduates, but well-rounded individuals equipped with knowledge, skills, and character.

The ceremonies, set for April 17 and 18, will also feature honorary doctorate awards for notable Nigerians and showcase the university’s growing academic strength — from multi-billion naira research funding to international collaborations and student opportunities (including AI and climate research backed by global partners).

But it’s not all smooth sailing — the university is pushing for more infrastructure, funding, and protection of its land as student numbers climb toward 50,000.

Big numbers, big achievements — and a new generation of top graduates ready to step into the spotlight.
