FROM FARM TO TABLE: FG, IFAD TAKE NUTRITION LESSONS TO RURAL ANAMBRA

Listen to the story

Growing food is one thing eating right is another. Now, farmers are learning both.

The Federal Government, alongside the International Fund for Agricultural Development Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP), is stepping into kitchens not just farms but to fight malnutrition in rural Anambra.

At a hands-on training in Awka, farmers (especially women and youths) were taught how to turn everyday crops like cassava, rice, and cowpea into nutritious, balanced meals.

According to programme coordinators, the goal is simple: make sure increased food production actually leads to healthier families — not just fuller barns.

Beyond cooking, participants are also learning food hygiene, processing techniques, and how to get more value (and income) from what they grow, with support like modern agro-processing equipment for cooperatives.

It’s not just about farming more it’s about eating smarter.

Better harvests should mean better health and this initiative is making sure that connection counts.
