NCAA TO AIRLINES: ADD SPECIAL NEEDS OPTION TO TICKET BOOKINGS OR FACE SANCTIONS

Regulator moves to guarantee inclusive air travel for passengers with disabilities

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has ordered all domestic airlines to build a mandatory “special needs/assistance” option into their ticket booking platforms, giving passengers with disabilities and reduced mobility easier access to support.

In a statement issued in Abuja, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, said airlines must allow passengers to request assistance at the point of booking—online or by phone—before completing ticket purchases.

The directive, backed by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations 2023, requires airlines to actively ask if any passenger needs help at the airport or during flights, and to clearly display the option on booking portals.

Airlines have seven days to comply, Achimugu warned, stressing that failure to do so could attract regulatory sanctions. The move, he added, reinforces NCAA’s commitment to safe, accessible and inclusive air travel for all.
