KWARA LAWMAKERS OK N656.5BN BUDGET, BOOST GOV ABDULRAZAQ’S 2026 PLAN

Assembly adds N10.5bn after review, says spending aligns with state priorities

Kwara State lawmakers have raised the 2026 budget to N656.5 billion, approving an additional N10.5bn on top of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s original proposal. The revised budget got the green light on Friday after the House adopted the report of its Finance and Appropriation Committee during plenary led by Speaker Yakubu Danladi Salihu.

Committee chair Arinola Fatimoh Lawal said the increase followed detailed scrutiny and consultations with MDAs, stressing that the adjustments were made to better reflect Kwara’s development needs and fiscal realities.

“The goal was simple—make the budget work better for Kwarans,” she told lawmakers.

Speaker Salihu praised the transparent review process, assuring residents that the Assembly remains focused on ensuring public funds deliver real impact. The approved budget will fund governance, infrastructure, social services and other priority projects in the 2026 fiscal year.
