The Plateau chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) applauded Gov. Caleb Mutfwang for approving the Teachers’ Retirement Act 2022, which raises the compulsory retirement age for teachers to 65 or 40 years of service. This move aims to tackle teacher shortages and boost retention in the state.
At the 2025 World Teachers Day event, ASUSS Chair Chundung Rapwong highlighted the law’s role in elevating the teaching profession, while education leaders called for stronger collaboration among teachers, students, and communities. The government reaffirmed its commitment to teacher welfare and urged dedication from educators.
