Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, has described the Federal High Court judgment nullifying the Sen. David Mark-led leadership of the party as “politically motivated,” alleging that it was intended to weaken the ADC.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, November 5, 2026, by his campaign spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku questioned the timing of the ruling, which came barely a day after he was welcomed by supporters in Sokoto. He said the turnout reflected Nigerians’ desire for change and his campaign’s promise to make life more affordable, adding that his candidacy was national and not restricted to the North.
Atiku also challenged the legal basis for reopening the leadership dispute, citing an earlier judgment by Justice Musa Liman of the Federal High Court in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1637/2025. He said the earlier ruling dismissed the challenge to the Mark-led leadership on grounds relating to jurisdiction, standing and the exhaustion of internal party remedies, arguing that the latest case amounted to an attempt to circumvent a subsisting judgment.
The former vice-president said the ADC would challenge the ruling at the Court of Appeal and urged supporters to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding. He said the campaign would continue, noting that the campaign train had moved to Kebbi after its activities in Sokoto, and called on supporters to take the party’s message from house to house and door to door.
