CNG SHORTAGE LEAVES KADUNA TRICYCLE OPERATORS STRANDED FOR DAYS

Listen

Commercial tricycle operators in Kaduna have appealed to the Federal Government and relevant authorities to intervene in a prolonged Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) supply disruption that has left drivers stranded at filling stations and disrupted their daily earnings.

The operators told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, that they had spent days waiting for gas supplies, with a visit to a CNG facility along Kachia Road revealing long queues of tricycles.

One operator, Maisamari Dauda, said some drivers had waited for up to two days without receiving supplies, leaving them uncertain about when operations could resume. Dauda said the shortage was particularly difficult for drivers who had switched from petrol-powered tricycles to CNG-powered vehicles because of lower operating costs.

Another operator, Jubril Saleh, said some transporters had speculated that rising CNG patronage could be affecting petrol dealers’ business interests, but acknowledged that the allegation had not been established. He also raised concerns over reports that gas tankers had been prevented from moving in some locations.

Abigail Aboi, a female tricycle operator along Sabo Expressway, said the queues reflected the growing adoption of CNG among commercial transporters. She called for better coordination and reliable gas distribution, while operators appealed for an investigation into the shortage.

Efforts by NAN to obtain comments from the affected facility’s management and other filling station owners were unsuccessful, as those approached declined to comment.
