The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has suspended an officer over alleged misuse of a firearm during a confrontation with traders at Kubwa Market, Abuja, where he reportedly fired shots into the air.
The NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, October 29, 2026, in Abuja, saying the incident occurred on Sunday. He added that the officer had been arrested by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command over the incident.
According to Afolabi, NSCDC Commandant-General Ahmed Audi described the officer’s conduct as unprofessional and directed an Orderly Room Trial to determine his level of culpability. Audi said the alleged action violated the corps’ rules of engagement and Standard Operating Procedures, stressing that misuse of firearms and other forms of professional misconduct would attract appropriate sanctions.
The commandant-general said the officer had been stripped of his official responsibilities and relieved of his assignment pending the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings. He added that the outcome of the internal investigation would be made public, reaffirming the corps’ commitment to public safety and its zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct by personnel.
