Lions International District 404B4, Nigeria, has screened more than 200 people and distributed prescription glasses, eye drops and medications in Ibadan as part of activities marking the 2026 World Sight Day.

The outreach, held on Thursday, October 8, under the theme “Love Your Eyes, Sight for All,” featured eye examinations by medical personnel, distribution of eye-care materials and referrals for beneficiaries requiring further treatment.

District Committee Chairperson for Sight Preservation, Lion Funmilayo Oladeji, said the initiative reflected the organisation’s commitment to preventing avoidable blindness and improving access to eye-care services. Oladeji stressed the importance of early detection and treatment of eye conditions, including glaucoma, while calling on individuals and other organisations to support efforts to expand access to eye care.

President of the Ibadan Hilltop Lions Club, Lion Bisi Shofunde, said the organisation had supported cataract surgeries and distributed eye-care materials in previous years. She urged the government to introduce routine eye screening for schoolchildren and advised the public to seek examinations from qualified professionals rather than buying glasses from roadside vendors.

A guest lecturer, Mrs Adetunji Opeyemi, also encouraged early medical attention for vision changes, while beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the outreach.
