Listen

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled a coordinated multi-directional assault by ISWAP terrorists in Kukawa, Borno State, with more than 25 terrorists reportedly neutralised during the counter-offensive.

The troops of 101 Special Forces Battalion came under attack from four directions but responded with support from the Air Component, using superior firepower and coordinated tactical manoeuvres to force the attackers to retreat. Acting Military Information Officer, Capt. Mohammed Goni, said 14 bodies had so far been recovered, while six AK-47 rifles and other arms and ammunition were also recovered.

Goni said further exploitation of the area was ongoing to recover additional weapons, track fleeing terrorists and prevent them from regrouping. He also confirmed that some soldiers were killed during the encounter, with the Nigerian Army extending condolences to their families.

He said the successful repulsion of the attack demonstrated the resilience and combat readiness of troops in the North-East Theatre, while highlighting the role of air-ground coordination in disrupting terrorist activities. He added that troops would sustain patrols, intelligence-led operations and coordinated offensives with other security agencies to dismantle terrorist networks and protect communities.
