Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has paid tribute to late colleague Olu Jacobs, describing the celebrated actor as a peaceful, humorous and deeply respected personality.
In an emotional video message, Edochie commiserated with Jacobs’ wife, actress Joke Silva, over the six-year period during which she supported her husband through his illness. He described Jacobs as a fighter and expressed sadness over his passing.
Edochie, however, urged colleagues and admirers to celebrate Jacobs’ life and achievements, noting that the actor lived to 84, beyond the biblical three-score-and-ten years. He recalled Jacobs’ distinctive personality and the respect he commanded among senior colleagues in the Nigerian film industry.
The veteran actor also expressed hope that one of Jacobs’ children would pursue acting and help preserve his father’s memory and legacy. He encouraged Silva to hold on to the words Jacobs had shared with her and reflected on the possibility of meeting his late colleague again.
Jacobs died on Sept. 16 at the age of 84, prompting tributes from colleagues, political leaders and Nigerians who acknowledged his contributions to theatre, television and Nollywood. He was also a recipient of several awards, including the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).
