The Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN) and MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) have partnered to expand professional skills development opportunities for filmmakers and other creative practitioners across Nigeria.
DGN National President, Uche Agbo, on Thursday September 24, said the initiative is aimed at strengthening the creative workforce, closing skills gaps, improving professionalism and creating networking opportunities for industry practitioners.
According to Agbo, the MTF Regional Workshop Series will hold in Abeokuta, Ibadan, Owerri, Abia, Abuja, Kaduna, Asaba and Port Harcourt, giving emerging and practising directors, writers, producers, cinematographers and other creatives access to experienced industry professionals.
Agbo said the programme, which is the first DGN partnership with MTF, would be sustained and expanded beyond the selected cities. He expressed hope that it would eventually reach all 36 states, while urging government to support skills development and create an enabling environment for private-sector investment in the creative industry.
He added that digital and social-media platforms had widened opportunities for Nigerians to create content and earn from their skills, noting that the sector could provide alternative livelihoods for young people and contribute to job creation and poverty reduction.
