U.S. President Donald Trump has used his address to the 81st UN General Assembly in New York to highlight what he described as major improvements in border security, public safety and the American economy.
Trump said the U.S. now has its most secure border in history, claiming that no undocumented migrants had been admitted into the country over the past 16 months. He also said violent crime had fallen significantly, including an 87 per cent reduction in Washington, D.C., while claiming the murder rate had reached its lowest level in 125 years.
On the economy, Trump pointed to more than one million new private-sector jobs, record stock-market levels, higher household incomes and $21 trillion in new investment commitments. He also said the U.S. had become stronger economically and militarily under his administration.
The figures and claims were presented by Trump during his UN address; some have also been subject to independent fact-checking.
