The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed Nov. 24 for hearing in a suit filed by the Chartered Institute of Forensics and Certified Fraud Investigators of Nigeria (CIFCFIN) against the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
CIFCFIN is challenging ICAN’s authority to operate a certification programme leading to the award of the Certified Forensic Accountant of Nigeria (CFAN) qualification. The suit is before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik.
The institute argues that ICAN’s certification programme is outside its statutory mandate and could create confusion for the public. CIFCFIN is asking the court to nullify the CFAN qualification and restrain ICAN from issuing, advertising or recognising the certification.
The matter was initially scheduled for mention on Tuesday but was adjourned to allow the parties to appear properly. The court is expected to hear the case on Nov. 24.
