The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has begun a seven-day annual seclusion as the 2026 Olojo Festival formally gets underway in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Before entering seclusion on Sunday, the traditional ruler urged political leaders to prioritise the interests and welfare of citizens, stressing that political power is temporary. He also called on leaders to uphold Nigeria’s sovereignty and unity as paramount national interests.
Oba Ogunwusi said he would use the period of seclusion to pray for peace, unity and progress in Nigeria. He also commended residents for their strong participation in the Aug. 15 governorship election.
The Olojo Festival is one of Ile-Ife’s major cultural and spiritual celebrations, providing an important platform for preserving indigenous traditions, ancestral heritage and Yoruba cultural identity.
