Six people have died while two others sustained injuries in a road crash involving a truck and a commercial vehicle along the Kabba–Odo-Ape Road in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The accident occurred on the afternoon of Saturday, September 19, with the Kogi Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Lawal Fagge, attributing the crash to speeding. Residents of Odo-Ape reportedly assisted in rescuing the survivors.
Fagge said the bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the General Hospital, Kabba, while the injured victims were receiving attention. He urged motorists to avoid speeding, dangerous overtaking and driving while fatigued.
The Kogi State Government, on Sunday September 20, commiserated with the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery. Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, said Gov. Ahmed Ododo was saddened by the incident and called for greater caution and stronger enforcement of traffic regulations to reduce road crashes.
