The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old security guard over the alleged shooting of a resident at Zion Estate, Akobo area of Ibadan.
According to the police, the incident happened at about 4 a.m. on Tuesday when the resident, Bolaji Oladipupo, reportedly came out to pump water after hearing a siren around his residence. Police said preliminary investigations indicated that he was confronted by the security guard and allegedly shot after identifying himself as a resident.
Police said four locally made single-barrel guns and a machete were recovered from the suspect’s duty post. The victim is currently receiving medical attention and responding to treatment.
The police said a thorough investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the suspect’s possession of the firearms. The Commissioner of Police has directed that appropriate action be taken in accordance with the law.
