Nigeria’s Falconets have advanced to the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after thrashing New Caledonia 10-1 in their final Group F match in Poland on Sunday.
Ramotalahi Kareem and substitute Winner David scored hat-tricks, while Rebecca Adegbemile netted twice. Seimeyeha Akekoromowei and Tosin Rafiu also scored as Nigeria produced a dominant performance to secure the vital victory.
Kareem opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 17th minute before Adegbemile doubled the lead two minutes later. Akekoromowei and Kareem added further goals before half-time, while David, Kareem, Rafiu, Adegbemile and David again completed Nigeria’s 10-goal haul. New Caledonia scored a late consolation through Joceline Kourevi.
The victory took Nigeria to four points from three matches, behind group winners Spain on nine points. China also finished on four points after losing 3-1 to Spain, but Nigeria advanced on goal difference after opening the tournament with a 2-0 loss to Spain and drawing 0-0 with China.
The Falconets, two-time finalists at the U-20 Women’s World Cup, will now turn their attention to the knockout stage as they continue their quest for a first title.
