The Lagos State Government, in partnership with the Culinary Group, has launched the third season of the EkoFlavours culinary competition to discover, develop and promote emerging culinary talents across the state.

Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms Abisola Olusanya, on Friday September 11, said the initiative was designed to provide young people with creative opportunities beyond conventional career paths. She described culinary arts as a platform through which young talents could explore their creativity, develop skills and build viable careers and businesses.

The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr Emmanuel Audu, said more than 300 applicants had entered the competition, with a virtual pitching stage set to select the strongest contestants. Successful participants will proceed to a food camp for training in culinary skills and the business aspects of the food industry, before 10 finalists are selected for the grand finale in November.

The overall winner will receive 5 million naira, while the first and second runners-up will receive 3 million naira and 2 million naira respectively, alongside mentorship and other opportunities.

Culinary Group Co-Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Jennifer Odufuwa, said previous contestants had expanded their businesses, secured partnerships with leading hotels and gained brand visibility, stressing that EkoFlavours was helping emerging chefs build sustainable careers in the culinary industry.
