The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd. has unveiled a 24-hour smart self-service fuelling station in Abuja, offering automated fuel dispensing, electric vehicle (EV) charging, LPG services, car wash and vehicle maintenance. The facility, located along Bill Clinton Drive, Airport Road, was commissioned on Thursday September 10.
The station has a 180,000-litre Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and 45,000-litre Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) storage capacity, with 16 PMS pumps and two AGO pumps. It is powered by more than 200 kilowatts of solar energy, while customers can use the NNPC Retail mobile app to make payments and dispense fuel themselves.
NNPC Executive Vice President, Downstream, Dr Mumuni Dagazau, said the facility marked a shift from conventional filling stations to modern energy hubs. He disclosed that the company plans to roll out between 50 and 70 similar smart stations nationwide within the next six months, including facilities in Abuja and Kano.
Dagazau said the smart stations would also provide CNG, LPG, EV charging and other services, while existing NNPC stations would be modernised based on customer demand. He said the transformation would create rather than eliminate jobs, as personnel would still be required to support customers and operate the new technologies.
