Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has dissolved parliament and announced a snap parliamentary election for October 25, 2026. The parliamentary vote was originally expected next year.
Vucic’s ruling Serbian Progressive Party has nominated him to run for prime minister. The move comes amid nearly two years of anti-corruption protests following the collapse of a railway station that killed 16 people.
Vucic said the election was necessary because of political tensions and conflicts. It remains unclear whether he will resign as president before the election or afterward.
