A Nigerian Navy lieutenant, identified as James Emmanuel, and a 51-year-old driver, Felix Dickson, have been arrested in Rivers State over the alleged trafficking of suspected cannabis.
The suspects were reportedly intercepted by operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol along the East-West Road while travelling in a Toyota Tacoma Hilux fitted with a siren. Police allegedly recovered 248 moulds of suspected cannabis, described as “Scottish Loud”, concealed in five large Ghana-Must-Go bags inside the vehicle.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, Dickson told investigators during preliminary questioning that he was contracted by the naval officer to drive the vehicle from Lagos to Port Harcourt and deliver the consignment. The two suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
Authorities are expected to establish the source of the suspected drugs and determine whether other individuals were involved in the alleged trafficking. The suspects remain presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court.
